O título é baseado no filme O Espetacular Homem-Aranha e a produtora Beenox desenvolveu uma jogabilidade muito mais baseada em "Batman: Arkham City" do que a tradicional do Homem-Aranha. O resultado: agora aproveitamos muito mais as habilidades para realizar ataques stealth e derrotarmos inimigos sem ser visto e o sistema de esquiva também é muito semelhante ao jogo do Batman.
Mas nem tudo é cópia, o título também mostra algumas novidades, como exploração em mundo aberto e podemos transitar entre os edifícios de Nova Iorque realizando missões secundárias que possam aparecer durante a caminhada.
